Textile Workshop – Vietnam’s 54 different ethnic minority communities are renowned for the incredible textiles used to create different traditional dresses. The Red Dao and Black H’Mong in particular have some of the most captivating, with symbolic patterned themes, intricate fabric embellishment, hand embroidery, and natural dyeing. Join Black H’Mong artisans in Lao Chai Village for an introduction to hemp production, batik design, and natural dyeing with indigo over the course of this full-day textile workshop.
You won’t go through all 41 steps needed to complete a design, but you will uncover the meaning behind some of the most important H’Mong folk art symbols and sit down for a traditional H’Mong lunch before transferring back to Topas Ecolodge.
This experience is also paired with a gentle 30-minute hike to Lao Chai in the morning as well as an easy 1-hour walk from Lao Chai to Ta Van Village later on, where the car will pick you up.

Note
- The excursion is based on sharing a group of minimum 2 and maximum 10 travelers
- Due to wet condition, trekking route will be slippery, so the itineraries are subject to change based on that.
What to wear and bring: It is recommended to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, trekking shoes, and to bring insect repellent, sunglasses, sun hat, and sunscreen.

- Please note that during the tour, you may be followed by ethnic women who are eager to sell their handcrafted items. They may follow you throughout your journey. If you are not interested in purchasing, just decline nicely. We are very sorry for this inconvenience.
- As described on the program, you will visit a local house, and interact with local people. However, during the seasonal days, they all may not be at home but work in the fields, this experience may be lacking.
- Visiting a local school is also subject to availability of the school calendar.
